When parents and children do community service projects together
and talk about important social issues with one another, kids learn
that every human being has worth, that we are stewards of this
planet, and that the world is a better place when we care for one
another.

Minneapolis-based Doing Good Together (www.doinggoodtogether.
org) is a nonprofit organization committed to helping parents and
other adults engage with children in volunteering, social action and
charitable giving to make a positive difference in all communities.

DOING GOOD TOGETHER
is a nonprofit, 501(c)3 organization that weaves volunteerism,
charitable giving and social action into the fabric of families’ lives
to strengthen family bonds, bring communities together, and
inspire kids to care.

Inspire Kids to Care
In a culture that so often appears to reward materialism and greed,
volunteering together at a homeless shelter, crisis nursery, nature preserve or
animal shelter is a powerful way to pass on the values of caring, compassion
and social responsibility to children. Researchers have discovered that
children whose parents model helping behaviors and provide opportunities to
volunteer are more likely to adopt healthy social values and attitudes and to
help others when they grow up.

Strengthen Families
If you think that with work, school, sports and chores, your family doesn’t have
time to get involved, think again. The time crunch is actually a great reason to
volunteer. Serving together provides a positive way for family members to
spend quality time with one another, brings parents and children closer by
inspiring important conversations about values, attitudes and beliefs, and

critical community needs, such as cleaning parks or delivering meals to

Publish a monthly email newsletter with volunteer ideas and family

Produce a monthly calendar of Twin Cities family volunteer opportunities.

Promote family volunteerism by publishing articles and serving as a
resource to media.

Background
Doing Good Together was founded in 2003 by executive director Jenny
Friedman, Ph.D., author of The Busy Family’s Guide to Volunteering

With the help of the Board of Directors and numerous volunteers,
Doing Good Together has become a national resource for family volunteerism.
The organization’s income comes from consulting, writing and speaking fees,
materials sales, and individual donations. We are also applying for foundation
and corporate grants.

for our active duty military.

Our goal is to have 100,000
donated by April 1st.

start getting over 100 degrees
over in the Middle East.

really asking for.

is $5 bucks.
